Today the four stars are centered.\u003C/p>\u003Cp>The six-pointed appearance of the stars is significant. Sovereign states usually use the five-pointed star, which makes it somewhat unsuitable for a city flag. Rice also believed that this six-pointed design had never before been seen on a flag, so according to him, this is “peculiarly and singularly a Chicago star, made by a Chicagoan for his greatly loved city.”\u003C/p>\u003Cp>Chicago’s flag is one of the most popular and widely-recognized city flags in the country. In 2004, the North American Vexillological Association conducted an opinion survey on American city flags and Chicago’s came in at number 2 of 150—second only to Washington D.C.’s flag.
